Research Assistant I – Tissue Bank

SUMMARY

Under the direction of the MelCore Program Manager, the Research Assistant I, will provide technical assistance in carrying out various biobanking projects and human sample processing.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

Conducts research biospecimen processing Processes blood, tissue, stool and other biospecimens under the supervision of laboratory manager or designated research staff. Utilizes laboratory equipment to carry out sample processing and biospecimen storage

Documentation, inventory and data entry Records and enters data in accordance with standard operating procedures

Biospecimen Kits Prepares biospecimen processing kits according to standard operating procedures, for assigned protocols. Documents kit supply inventory and distribution

Biospecimen pick-up Picks up biospecimens from various core services within MDACC and receives biospecimens from outside sources

Required Education:

Bachelor’s degree, major course work in one of the basic sciences.

Required Experience:

No experience is required.

Preferred Experience//Skills:

Prior lab experience, prior experience working as part of a team, able to operate in a dynamic, high-throughput environment, great communication skills, reliable, flexible in work hours (open to working until 6pm).
