The Iowa Neuroscience Institute has an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Research Scientist to lead and facilitate cutting-edge spatial biology platforms and human brain research. This cross-disciplinary position will provide career development and work closely with research groups and a wide variety of scientific questions. The role will include working with customers to guide project design, provide technical expertise, and be responsible for project success. These include conducting biobanking and experiments, assisting with experimental designs, performing analyses, writing manuscripts, working with coordinators and undergrad students, and preparing grants, using molecular, cellular, histological, and bioinformatics approaches. The ideal candidate is an experienced and highly organized individual who can apply a variety of cross-disciplinary techniques and research equipment.

Responsibilities:

  • Hands-on experiments and training in cutting-edge spatial technologies and epigenetics, including 10x Genomics (Visium), Vizgen (MERSCOPE), ACD (RNAscope HiPlex), and PyroMark sequencing 
  • Coordinate across cross-functional teams (faculty, cores, and suppliers) and core users to ensure all project goals are met or exceeded.
  • Contribute to the growth, continued improvement, and future development of the core facility.
  • Create and manage the core services, inventory, and protocols.
  • Leveraging strong planning, communication, and collaboration skills.
