Abstract: The National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) and the University of Ladakh have signed a strategic MoU to enhance laboratory capabilities, research standards, and skill development in Ladakh. The agreement was formalized by N Venkateswaran, CEO of NABL, and Prof. Saket Kushwaha, Vice Chancellor of the University of Ladakh, during the 9th Proficiency Testing Providers (PTP)/Reference Material Producers (RMP) Conclave in Chandigarh. This collaboration is set to strengthen laboratory infrastructure, foster research excellence, and empower skill-building initiatives, ultimately driving growth and development across the region. By enabling Ladakh’s laboratories to align with national and international quality frameworks, the partnership promises to elevate scientific contributions from one of India’s most unique regions.
NABL, a recognized accreditation body under ISO/IEC 17011, provides voluntary and non-discriminatory accreditation services to testing, medical, and calibration laboratories, as well as to proficiency testing providers, reference material producers, and biobanks in line with ISO 20387. Its accreditation system ensures technical competence and credibility, reducing trade barriers and facilitating global acceptance of test results through Mutual Recognition Arrangements (MRA) with ILAC and APAC. With standards such as ISO/IEC 17025, ISO 15189, ISO/IEC 17043, ISO 17034, and ISO 20387, NABL enables labs and biobanks to meet global benchmarks. This MoU marks an important milestone for Ladakh, opening pathways for quality-driven research, biobanking, and skill development, ensuring the region becomes a stronger player in India’s scientific and technological landscape.
