Biggest Imaging Study for Dementia at UK Biobank 

The world’s biggest medical imaging study – part of the UK Biobank project – has scanned its 50,000th participant in Newcastle.

The vast study collects masses of data on people which is then used by scientists to diagnose, treat, and potentially prevent diseases like dementia, heart disease, arthritis, and cancer.

The scanning adds to the information the UK BioBank study holds on the physical health, genetics, and lifestyle of half a million people around the country. This store of data is vital for helping researchers to examine how diseases develop – particularly those we know little about.
